New York Startup Event Scene
I attended my first startup event since returning from London this evening. Event of choice: New York Tech Mixer Meetup - “Demos and Drinks”. Good event, great turnout. The startup event scene in NYC has grown a lot over the past 6 months. London has ways to go.
About the Meetup:
The format of the event will feature five demos from NY tech startups followed by Q&A and a general networking session. Entrepreneurs, developers, designers, investors, and anyone interested in learning more about New York’s tech community is invited.
Startups to keep an eye on:
i. Broadcastr.com
“Broadcastr is a Social Media platform for location-based stories. It enables the recording, indexing, listening, and sharing of audio content. Just like in human memory, every story is bound to a place…Broadcastr amplifies all our voices. Users can take a GPS-enabled walk as stories about their surroundings stream into their headphones, like a museum tour of the entire world. Users can record their own content, create playlists [and] follow their friends.”
ii. SkillSlate
“SkillSlate is a vertical search directory for finding individual service providers such as handymen, tutors, or dog walkers. Our directories consist of profiles complete with pictures, prices, and reviews, as well as information that paints a picture of the service provider’s personality” … “[SkillSlate gives] individual service providers an easy and effective way to market their services online through their SkillSlate profile. And, because SkillSlate is building the most comprehensive source for finding these individual service providers, we end up generating a lot of leads for our members.”
